Sustainable business development

The other focus areas describe what we want to do, while this one describes how we want to reach our goals. We rely upon both the world around us and technological developments to reach our sustainability goals. By promoting innovation and developing close partnerships with customers and suppliers, we want to lay the foundations for lasting Nordic sustainability work throughout the industry.

Digitalization

Transparency and data are prerequisites for a company of our size to conduct sustainability work in an effective manner. At the same time, the construction industry is generally considered to be one of the least digitalized. We want to change this.

In 2020, we launched a major initiative to significantly increase our digitalization rate with a number of new employees and an expanded central digital function to drive the work. Since then, we have stepped up the pace and are now running projects both internally and with industry organizations, in order to offer our customers the best possible conditions to work more sustainably.

BEAst – A Collaboration

We sit on the board of BEAst (The Construction Industry's Electronic Business Standard). The purpose of this collaboration is to drive digitalization for the construction industry’s operators and to facilitate digital communication, from ordering to delivery and invoicing.

More Sustainable Choices

More sustainable innovations is an initiative that rewards innovation with a sustainability focus, and we hope to introduce at least ten new products and services with increased sustainability every year.

Ahlsell doesn't have its own production, but we still play an important role in the innovation process. Our position gives us the opportunity to highlight and introduce new products and services to the market. We wanted to reward sustainable ideas even more, and that's why we've launched the “More sustainable innovations” initiative. In order to point out that sustainability work is a shared responsibility, Ahlsell highlights our suppliers’ sustainability progress with the Sustainable Supplier of the Year award.

12. Responsible consumption and production

Responsible extraction and recycling is one of our industry’s major challenges. We need to increase our focus on circular processes and also reward circularity. This requires a gradual phase-out of hazardous substances and any substances that can't be circulated.

13. Climate action

The climate is the largest issue of our time. Conducting business in the future will require doing so with a minimal carbon footprint. Ahlsell aims to halve its CO2 emissions from 2016 to 2030 and be fossil free by 2045.
