Volt Stick Sound is an instrument that, without metallic contact, indicates the presence of 230V AC voltage in cables, sockets, switches etc. An electric field is indicated with a bright red light in the tip and with a sound signal. When detection of an electric field is indicated with a light signal only, the batteries need changing. Example of application areas are localisation of breaks in cables without insulation (not shielded cables however), checking fuses in distribution boxes and plug cabinets, distinguishing between live and neutral in both single-phase and three-phase systems, identifying power cables in junction boxes, checking connected switches, localising faulty lamps in serial connections (e.g. Christmas lights), checking if voltage is present in tamper-resistant wall sockets and checking fuses through the glass fuse holder.
